You have beautifully expressed exactly how we felt after our five day stay at Wooleen Station in 2018. On David’s recommendation we purchased and read Charles Massy’s ‘Call of the Reed Warbler’ and have become even more passionate about how we can (and must) heal the land. We cant wait for David’s book, and to revisit Wooleen for another extraordinary experience.

We enjoyed our stay there.
Apart from the wonderful natural environment and improvements in regeneration there is a treasure trove of history and artifactsin the yard.

WE encourage others to visit and support Frances and David,

This looks like such a cool experience to stay at Wooleen Station. They’ve done some amazing work to revitalize the area. Reading this reminded me of how complicated these efforts are. Definitely some food for thought! Thanks for sharing 🙂

I’m so glad the vegetation is starting to make a comeback!

It really shows the importance of human involvement in conservation. For years, the National Parks in the US have taken a “hands off” approach, with the theory that nature knows best. Now, invasive species have done a lot of damage to many parks and out of control underbrush has contributed to massive wildfire seasons. Yes, nature does correct a lot of problems on its own, but humans are meant to be the caretakers of the land and to ensure nature doesn’t overcorrect or go rogue. Fascinating stuff!

You’re right that it could be quite depressing but I was left feeling quite proud of the people instead 🙂
